Where being overstimulated, overbooked, and oddly optimistic somehow still works out.
7:04 AM.
I wake up tired, which feels rude considering I literally just did sleeping.
Before my feet hit the floor, somebody needs something. A charger. A shoe. A signature. Emotional support. The missing item from yesterday that somehow disappeared into the same dimension where Tupperware lids go.
I have 14 minutes to leave the house.
This information changes nothing.
By 8:12 AM, I have already answered 6 questions, solved 3 problems, forgotten why I walked into a room twice, and considered running away to live in a beach town where my only responsibility is sunscreen.
Instead, I open my computer.
Instant regret.
Tabs everywhere. Reports everywhere. Emails multiplying like rabbits with health insurance. Someone asks if I have "a quick second," which is workplace language for I'm about to ruin your morning.
Lunch happens standing up. Probably.
At some point I become one of those people carrying 47 invisible tabs in my brain. Provider requests. Follow-ups. Appointments. Kids. Groceries. Laundry. That thing I forgot. The other thing I forgot. Why does nobody else remember birthdays? Why am I the birthday department?
5:36 PM.
I drive home acting like I am racing against time itself because once I get home, I am staying home.
You want me to make an extra stop?
Interesting.
Disrespectful, but interesting.
The evening becomes chaos in layers.
Dinner. Laundry. Questions. More questions. Somebody yelling "Mom." Another person yelling "Mom" from a different direction like surround sound. My grandson fully convinced Honey has unlimited energy and exists primarily to chase him around the house.
(Sir. I am cute, not cardio.)
9:58 PM.
The house finally gets quiet.
I sit down.
And suddenly remember 14 things I forgot to do.
So naturally, I ignore all of them and stare into space wearing house shoes like the emotionally exhausted queen of poor planning and good intentions.
Tomorrow will probably be easier.
Which is hilarious.
with love, just jessica
